Faultti - Shorter Power Outages Using Drones
What have we done?
The Faultti system was developed through a collaboration between Saimaa Solutions Oy and Mindhive. It allows for the rapid assessment of electric powerline conditions using drones, instead of the traditional method of using helicopters for maintenance. This results in faster reaction times and a more cost-effective and environmentally-friendly solution. The Faultti service includes an application for flying drones and capturing images and videos in challenging weather conditions, as well as a cloud-based situational awareness tool that provides real-time information about maintenance flights, georeferenced images, and communication between drone pilots and system managers.
How did we do it?
The collaboration covered every aspect of product development, from the initial concept and core functionality to service design and user journey definition. The team also developed the system architecture, chose the technology stack, and designed the user interface and user experience for the brand, drone application, and web services. The project was carried out using an agile approach, resulting in the release of a proof-of-concept MVP pilot version. The technology used included Java for the Android drone control app and Typescript and NextJS for the web services, which were hosted on the Firebase platform.
